Agrinos Successfully Completes Partnership to Support the Indian Farming Community and Sustainable Agriculture
In Partnership with the UC Berkley Global Innovation Forum, Agrinos delivered sustainable agricultural technology to support economic development in rural Indian villages
NEW DELHI, India (Sept. 20, 2018)—Agrinos is celebrating the successful outcome of its collaboration with the University of California, Berkeley in support of the Smart Village Project in India.
Through the partnership, Agrinos’ portfolio of biostimulants was made available to Smart Village farmers in five districts of Andhra Pradesh following product training. The agricultural inputs, which feature HYT® (High Yield Technology), were subsequently offered online to growers throughout India via a regional distributorship that was also a partner in the Smart Village Project.
“Over the last year, we provided technical training programs on Agrinos’ High Yield Technology products to UC Berkeley – Andhra Smart Village Mandal Directors,” said Dr. Selvasundaram (Selva) Rajagopal, head of technology and chief agronomist for Agrinos’ India and Asia business units.
“We also facilitated in-field training programs and coordinated field trial demonstrations to show the value of HYT products on key crops which include tomato, groundnut, marigold and mulberry. Product samples were provided to the villages based on crop availability, cultivation practices and farmer interest.”
Dr. Selva, along with Indranil Das, Agrinos executive vice president of Eastern Europe and Asia Pacific and Debabrata Sarkar, Agrinos India country manager, led Agrinos’ involvement and supported the Smart Village project.
“We are extremely proud of our India team members for contributing their time and talents to support this notable effort,” said Das. “Our mission includes educating farmers around the world about the important role biostimulants can play in agricultural sustainability, plant health and crop productivity. Making our technology available online to growers in Andhra Pradesh furthered that mission.”
The UC Berkeley – Andhra Smart Village project is an ongoing collaborative initiative between the provincial government of Andhra Pradesh and the University of California, Berkeley. The project is working to empower, improve and connect Indian villages while enabling sustainable development by leveraging innovative technologies. It works towards community prosperity and collective strength by providing villagers tools to empower themselves through access to resources, knowledge and global connectivity.
